How to use a Canon camera:
How to set u: Before shooting a movie, focus with AF or manual focus (p.142-150).
When you press the shutter button halfway, the camera will focus with the current AF method.
Shooting the movie: Press the camera button to start shooting the movie. Press the camera button again when you wish to stop recording. While the movie is being shot. the circle mark will appear upper right of the screen.

The Canon Rebel T5/1200D has the ability to set the movie recording size. Through this setting, you set movie frame dimension ( in pixels) and frame rate, measured in frames per second (fps).You can access the option via Movie Menu 2

Play back the image: Press the arrow button facing the right to display an image.
Select a movie: Press the arrow button facing the left or right to select a movie.
In the single image display, the camera set button icon displayed on the upper left of the screen indicates a movie. In the index display, perforations at the left edge of a thumbnail indicate a movie. As movies cannot be played from the index display, press the set button left or right to switch to the single image display.
Play back the movie: Select the play button, then press the set button.
The movie will start playing. You can pause the movie playback by pressing the set button.
You can adjust the sound volume by turning the dial even during the movie playback.

MOV files:
The canon saves video files in the MOV format.
A MOV file is a common multimedia container file format developed by apple and compatible with both Macintosh and Windows platforms. It may contain multiple tracks that store different type of media data and is often used for saving movies and other video files. MOV files commonly use the MPEG-4 codec for compression.

After you have edited together your film, you will export in H.264 format.
